Privacy Policy
Last updated October 30, 2026
This notice explains what information the Lake and Peninsula School District (“the district,” “we”) collects from visitors to lpsd.com, how we use it, and how to contact us about it. It covers this website only. Student education records are kept in the district’s student information system, not on this website, and are governed by the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and district policy.
The website is a public information site. It does not sell anything, carry advertising, or require an account.
What we collect
Information you send us through a form. The site has two forms: public comment to the School Board and Shining Star nominations. When you submit one, the information you type (such as your name, email address, phone number and your message) is emailed to district staff so they can respond or act on it. The website itself does not store form submissions.
Information sent to us by email or phone. If you email a district address shown on the site, your message is handled like any other district correspondence.
Technical information collected automatically. Like every website, our hosting provider records standard server logs when you visit: the Internet Protocol (IP) address your request came from, the page requested, the date and time, and the browser type. We use these logs only to keep the site running and secure. The district does not keep its own copy of these logs; the hosting provider holds them for a short period for its own operations, and they are not combined with any other information about you.
Site search. The search box works in your browser. Unless you have opted out of analytics (below), the words you search for are counted anonymously, including searches that find nothing, so we can see what people look for and make it easier to find. They are not linked to you.
Analytics and cookies
We use Google Analytics to understand which pages are used, what people search for and how the site performs, so we can improve it. IP addresses are shortened before they are stored, advertising features are turned off, and Google holds the data as aggregate counts, not a history of you. Analytics sets a cookie in your browser to tell repeat visits from new ones. You can opt out at any time from the “Analytics Preferences” link in the footer, which turns analytics off in that browser, or opt out of Google Analytics on every website with Google’s browser add-on. Google’s handling of this data is described in the Google Privacy Policy. We do not use advertising cookies or any other tracking.
Third-party services on our pages
Some pages embed content from other services. When a page with embedded content loads, your browser connects to that service, which may set its own cookies and collect your IP address and usage information under its own privacy policy:
- Google Calendar (district calendar), Google Docs (staff directory, Air Travel Safety Survey) and Google Forms, covered by the Google Privacy Policy
- YouTube video on the Employment page (Google Privacy Policy)
- The Alaska Teacher Placement job board on the Employment page (alaskateacher.org)
- BoardBook, linked from the School Board page for agendas and packets (boardbook.org)
- OpenStreetMap map tiles on the Schools page (OpenStreetMap privacy policy)
- Links to Facebook and Instagram open those sites, which have their own policies.
If you prefer not to load third-party content, the same information is available from the district office on request.
How we use and share information
We use the information above to answer your messages, bring public comment to the School Board, consider Shining Star nominations, keep the site secure, and improve it. We do not sell personal information, use it for advertising, or share it with anyone outside the district except:
- service providers that operate the website on our behalf (web hosting, email delivery), who may handle it only for that purpose;
- when required by law, such as a public records request under the Alaska Public Records Act or a court order;
- School Board public comments, which are shared with Board members. Once a public comment is presented to the School Board, it becomes part of the public meeting record and is retained under the district’s records schedule; it generally cannot be deleted on request.
Children’s privacy
This site serves families and students. Students under 13 should ask a parent, guardian or teacher to submit a form on their behalf. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13 through the website; if you believe a child has sent us information through a form, contact us and we will delete it. Student education records are not collected or kept on this website.
Your choices and rights
- You can use every page of the site without submitting any personal information.
- You can ask us what information we hold about you from a website form or email, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it, by contacting the district office below. The exception is a public comment already presented to the School Board, which is part of the public meeting record (see above).
- Residents of states with consumer privacy laws may have additional rights; contact us and we will respond within the time those laws allow.
Our site does not respond to browser “Do Not Track” signals, because no common standard for them exists; the “Analytics Preferences” link in the footer gives you the same control.
Changes to this notice
We will update this notice when the site or the services it uses change, and show the date at the top.
